The 2016 South Carolina
Migratory Waterfowl Stamp Print
by Richard Clifton
Annual S.C. Duck Stamp
Renowned wildlife artist Richard Clifton has been selected as artist for the 2016-17 South Carolina State Duck Stamp and Print, a program of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Clifton’s painting of mottled ducks was commissioned by members of the S.C. Migratory Waterfowl Committee and will be featured on the state’s annual Migratory Waterfowl Stamp, as well as on the limited edition print series.
The program, now in its 36th year, is administered by the S. C. Department of Natural Resources. As specified by state law, funds derived from the sale of stamps, art prints and related artwork are used for waterfowl propagation projects directly providing waterfowl for the Atlantic Flyway.
Born in Delaware in 1961, Richard Clifton now lives on a historic family farm adjoining the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. He is a self-taught
wildlife artist who has chosen acrylics as his medium.
Waterfowl being one of his favorite subjects, Clifton has been selected as artist for 41 duck stamps from various states, as well as the 1996 Australian Duck Stamp and the 2007-08 Federal Duck Stamp. He has also been commissioned as artist for the 2015 through 2017 South Carolina duck stamp program.
Clifton’s work has been displayed in many of the top wildlife art shows throughout the country including the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition and the Easton Waterfowl Festival.
His art work has been featured on magazine covers and has been chosen several times for the Ducks Unlimited National Art Package. Also, he has been named artist of the year for various conservation groups where his art continues to raise money for these agencies.
